As some of you already know, a family emergency requires me to leave town tomorrow. In class on Thursday and Friday, you will be working on the paper you were assigned today. This is to be THREE pages long, typed, double-spaced, the usual:

Based on the 2009 open-ended essay prompt:
A symbol is an object, action, or event that represents something or that creates a range of associations beyond itself. In literary works, a symbol can express an idea, clarify meaning, or enlarge literal meaning. In The Stranger, focusing on one symbol, write an essay analyzing how that symbol functions in the work and what it reveals about the characters or themes of the work as a whole. Do not merely summarize the plot.

Turn in the revision and original copy to my mailbox Wednesday morning before you go to Baxter.
